Hyderabad: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said the Jain community, though just 0.5 per cent of India’s population, contributes nearly 24 per cent of India’s taxes.
Speaking at the inaugural session of JITO Connect 2025, a three-day Jain International Trade Organisation event in Hyderabad, Singh praised the community’s economic role. He said Jains are regarded worldwide as a hard-working and prosperous society.
Singh also described the Jain community’s philosophy as deeply rooted in Indian culture. He called its history “an invaluable lesson” in India’s spiritual and cultural journey.

The minister stressed that Jains have built strong positions across diverse sectors. “Whether it is pharma, aviation or education, Jains are leading the way,” he said. He added that their role was not only financial but also industrial and cultural.
On India’s broader economic progress, Singh said the country had advanced from toy making to defence production. “From toys to tanks, India is making everything. The day is not far when India will emerge as the factory of the world,” he said.
