Hyderabad: Traffic slowed to a crawl on the Hyderabad–Vijayawada highway on Saturday as Rakhi festival and weekend travel pushed thousands out of the city. Vehicles moved bumper-to-bumper along National Highway 65.
Heavy jams formed at LB Nagar, Vanasthalipuram, Hayathnagar and Abdullapurmet. Commuters heading to their hometowns queued at bus stops, adding to the congestion. Long lines of vehicles also stretched near Choutuppal and Pantangi toll plaza.
Rakhi rush slows traffic on Hyderabad–Vijayawada highway
Crowds swelled at major RTC bus stands in Hyderabad. Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station, Secunderabad’s Jubilee Bus Station, Uppal and LB Nagar were packed with passengers. Many waited in long lines for buses.
In response, RTC operated “Rakhi Special” services to match demand. Express buses ran full, with passengers filling aisles. Officials said services would continue through the weekend to ease the rush.
