Hyderabad: The Telangana State Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognisance of the fatal electrocution incident during the Krishna Janmashtami procession in Ramanthapur and initiated action.
Five people were killed after a ceremonial chariot came into contact with overhead power lines in the Gokhale Nagar area. The accident occurred during a Rath Yatra held as part of local Krishna Janmashtami celebrations.
Human Rights Commission demands compensation details and safety response
Treating the matter with seriousness, the Commission sought a detailed report from the state government, including information on compensation and relief measures extended to the victims’ families. It also directed the power department to clarify the safety protocols in place.
A notice has been issued to the Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL), requiring it to submit its report by August 22.
According to initial reports, the chariot made contact with high-voltage wires while moving through a narrow street. Four people died on the spot due to electric shock, while three others were taken to hospital with critical injuries. One of the injured later succumbed during treatment.
