Hyderabad: Ranga Reddy District Collector C. Narayana Reddy on Tuesday instructed all departments to stay on high alert after the Meteorological Department issued a red alert for the next two days. The forecast warned of heavy to very heavy rains across the district.
During a video conference with municipal commissioners, MPDOs, and department heads, the Collector reviewed flood safety measures, Vanamahotsavam progress, and Indiramma housing works. He told officials to set up control rooms, keep field teams on duty round-the-clock, and coordinate with power, revenue, police, R&B, panchayat raj, and irrigation departments. He directed them to locate dangerous drains and secure them to avoid loss of life.
He also asked officers to inspect schools, hostels, and weak buildings, and to move residents to safer locations if needed. Furthermore, he told them to prepare function halls as emergency shelters. They must inspect vulnerable tanks and projects for leaks, prevent electrical short circuits, and store enough urea for farmers in advance. Fallen trees on roads must be removed immediately, and staff should remain in the field throughout the alert period.
To speed up development works, Narayana Reddy ordered officials to complete Vanamahotsavam planting targets within a week. He told them to release payments for completed Indiramma houses without delay and to issue proceedings for stalled houses due to deviations. He also set August 16 as the deadline for proposals to install solar systems in all government offices.
For emergencies, the district control room will operate 24/7. Residents can call 7993103347 or 040-23237416 for assistance.
