Hyderabad: A recovery van driver was killed in a tragic accident on the Outer Ring Road near Himayat Sagar on Wednesday. The incident occurred when the driver was assisting a broken-down vehicle and was struck by a speeding car.
According to police, the incident took place at Exit 17 of the Outer Ring Road in the Rajendranagar area. A car travelling from Hyderabad towards Shamshabad experienced a mechanical failure and pulled over. The driver immediately contacted Outer Ring Road maintenance staff, who dispatched a recovery van to the location.
As recovery driver Shiva Keshav (40) began changing the tyre of the broken-down vehicle, a Toyota car travelling at high speed veered off and crashed into him. The impact flung Keshav into the air, and he died at the scene. Another individual at the site suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
The force of the collision caused extensive damage to three vehicles. Police suspect overspeeding as the primary cause of the crash.
The Rajendranagar police have registered a case and are conducting an investigation. Authorities have reiterated the importance of adhering to speed limits, especially near breakdown zones.
