Red alert issued for Telangana as heavy rain forecast

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Meteorological Centre has issued a red alert for Telangana for Wednesday and Thursday, warning of heavy to very heavy rain across the state.

Centre Director Nagaratna said Sangareddy, Vikarabad, Medak, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, and Mulugu districts are under red warning. Hyderabad, Hanumakonda, Adilabad, Jangaon, Kamareddy, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mahabubabad, Mancherial, Nalgonda, Rangareddy, Siddipet, and Warangal have been placed under orange alert.

Red alert issued for Telangana as heavy rain forecast

Nagaratna said Hyderabad and Rangareddy could receive heavy to very heavy rain over the next two days, with showers continuing statewide on Thursday. Yellow alerts have been issued for Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Peddapalli, and Karimnagar.

“There is a possibility of very heavy rain today in Medak, Sangareddy, and Vikarabad districts. Rain intensity will be high in North Telangana,” she said.

The forecast also warned of gusty winds at 40–50 kmph across the state for the next five days. Heavy rainfall is expected again in North Telangana on August 17.

Nagaratna said a low-pressure system over the west-central Bay of Bengal would drive widespread heavy rain in Telangana for the next four days.
