Hyderabad: Two shocking murders over property disputes were reported in Jangaon and Nizamabad districts, where close relatives killed elderly women to grab land, money, and gold.
Daughter, son-in-law kill mother in Jangaon
In Kondapuram Peddathanda of Palakurthi mandal, Jangaon district, 45-year-old Badavat Lakshmi was smothered to death by her daughter Sangitha and son-in-law Veeranna. Lakshmi’s husband had died 20 years ago, and she raised her only daughter by working as a farm labourer.
Five years ago, she sold two acres of her three-acre holding to give dowry for Sangitha’s marriage with Veeranna. Another 20 guntas were written in her daughter’s name, while she retained 30 guntas under her ownership. Since then, the couple had been pressuring her to transfer the remaining land. Lakshmi refused, stating it would pass to them only after her death.
On Tuesday midnight, the accused allegedly pressed a pillow over her face while she was asleep, killing her. Neighbours discovered the body on Wednesday morning when they came to call her for daily labour. Police registered a case and took both suspects into custody.
Widow murdered by brother-in-law in Nizamabad
In a separate case in Salur, Nizamabad district, 65-year-old widow Kattam Nagavva was strangled to death by her brother-in-law Kattam China Gangaram, his wife Kalavathi, and their son Ganesh. Nagavva, who had no children, had been living with her in-laws after her husband’s death.
Police said the accused considered caring for her a burden and plotted to seize her money and gold.On Tuesday night, the woman was strangled by three people. After her nephew filed a complaint, police registered a case and began investigating.
