Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed agriculture department officials to ensure all arrangements are in place for monsoon crop sowing. He asked them to make sure there are enough seeds and fertilisers in every district for the entire cultivation area.
He warned against the sale of fake seeds and fertilisers. Officers were told to take strict action against traders and companies found cheating farmers. He said fake seeds and counterfeit fertilisers must be stopped, and those responsible should face legal action.
Collectors and police officials in all districts were asked to stay alert. Agriculture and police departments will carry out joint task force raids. Monitoring at state borders will be tightened. The Chief Minister said all details about who is selling fake seeds, where they are stored, and how they are being transported are already available with the departments. He told them to act without delay or leniency, and to file PD Act cases where needed.
Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao was instructed to coordinate with district collectors, SPs, and police commissioners to make sure farmers don’t face any problems with seed and fertiliser supply.
The review meeting on monsoon crop preparations was held at the Secretariat with Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, CM’s advisor Vem Narender Reddy, MP Chamal Kiran Kumar Reddy, Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, Finance Secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Agriculture Secretary Raghunandan Rao, and Agriculture Director Gopi.
Officials told the Chief Minister that seeds and fertilisers are already available in all districts. They said paddy and cotton are expected to be the major crops this season, and seeds from companies in demand among farmers are in the market.
Revanth Reddy told farmers not to worry about fertiliser or seed availability. With monsoon expected to arrive early, he asked farmers to stay alert and choose crops accordingly. He warned them not to buy loose seeds and to keep seed packets and bills until the end of the crop cycle.
He also asked the agriculture department to run awareness campaigns to prevent farmers from buying fake or adulterated seeds.
