Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Friday flagged off buses carrying Haj pilgrims from Nampally Haj House to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, reaffirming his government’s commitment to minority welfare and development.
He waved the ceremonial flag at the send-off event, telling the gathering that nearly 6,000 applications were received this year for Haj. All were approved, he said. “Every Muslim wants to perform Haj at least once in life. The government wants to make that possible.”
To facilitate pilgrims, the government plans to build a Rubat (accommodation facility) near the airport at Mamidipally. “We’ll do whatever’s needed for your journey,” the CM told those assembled.
Standing next to Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, Revanth brought up an old declaration. “This isn’t the Old City. This is the Original City,” he said, referencing a past comment. He claimed the state had already taken up works worth nearly ₹2,000 crore in the area—more than what was requested by Owaisi. He listed metro expansion, new roads, and a cable bridge over Mir Alam Tank among the projects underway.
He doubled down on welfare promises, saying Muslims will get proportional access to all schemes based on their population share. “Many in the Muslim community are poor. It’s our responsibility to support them.” He cited fee reimbursement and the Indiramma housing programme. Under the Rajiv Yuva Vikas scheme, eligible unemployed Muslims would get job assistance, he added.
Speaking to the pilgrims, the CM said, “Pray for the peace of this state and this country. You have every right to go for Haj. The government’s job is to help you. And we won’t step back from that.”
Government Advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir, MP A. Revanth Kumar, several public representatives, corporation chairpersons, Haj Committee officials, and other dignitaries attended the event.
