HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has once again drawn criticism for his aggressive stance on the Hyderabad Central University (HCU) land issue, forming a ministerial committee without including Forest and Environment Minister Konda Surekha.
Despite strong rebukes from the Supreme Court over past actions, the Chief Minister appears unrelenting in his approach. His latest decision to constitute a committee-reportedly without adequate deliberation-has drawn sharp reactions, especially since similar hasty moves in the past have backfired.
The committee, tasked with addressing the ongoing HCU land controversy, will include Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, Ministers Sridhar Babu and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, along with representatives from the HCU Executive Council, civil society organisations, university students, and other stakeholders.
The exclusion of Minister Konda Surekha, whose portfolio is directly relevant to the issue, has raised eyebrows within political and administrative circles. Critics have pointed out that the pattern of decision-making without broad consultation is not only undermining governance but also escalating tensions around sensitive issues such as the HCU land dispute.
Sources suggest the government plans to use this committee to mediate between the university administration and public interest groups amid growing opposition to any encroachment or development on the HCU campus.
