HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy addressed the All India Padmashali Mahasabha, highlighting the sacrifices and contributions of the Padmashali community to Telangana’s self-respect and development. He paid tribute to Konda Laxman Bapuji, who relinquished his position for the cause of Telangana statehood.
CM Revanth Reddy underscored Bapuji’s pivotal role in the Telangana movement, recalling how he turned his home into a center for the struggle. He criticized the previous administration for failing to honor Bapuji upon his passing, stating that the Padmashali community still remembers the neglect.
The Chief Minister also acknowledged Tiger Ale Narendra, another key figure in the Telangana movement. He accused former CM K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) of sidelining Ale Narendra despite the Congress party making him a Union Minister.
Revanth Reddy assured that his government would provide justice to the Padmashali brothers whenever possible. He announced the following measures:
• Establishment of an Indian Institute of Handloom Technology in Telangana, named after Konda Laxman Bapuji.
• Renaming Asifabad Medical College in honor of Konda Laxman Bapuji, with Minister Tummala Nageshwar Rao assigned to oversee the process.
• A Rs 600 crore handloom saree procurement initiative, ensuring local weavers receive orders for 1.3 crore sarees.
Social and Political Reforms
Reaffirming his commitment to the community, Revanth Reddy stated that serving those who supported him was his moral duty. He assured them that he would stand by them as a family member.
The Chief Minister emphasised the need for a caste-based census, stating that the Congress government conducted it as promised by Rahul Gandhi. He dismissed claims from BJP and BRS, clarifying that the actual upper caste population in Telangana was 15.28%, not 21% as claimed by KCR.
He accused opposition parties of conspiring to deny 42% reservation to Backward Classes (BCs) and urged the BC community to resist such moves.
Revanth Reddy acknowledged the electoral influence of the Padmashali community in multiple states. He announced Rs 1 crore assistance for the construction of Markandeya Bhavan in Sholapur, a project aimed at preserving Padmashali heritage.
The Telangana government is committed to supporting Padmashalis in economic, political, and employment sectors. Revanth Reddy assured that proactive decisions would be taken to safeguard their self-respect, vowing to protect their interests as their own brother.
