Three dead, 20 injured in bus-lorry collision in Eluru

ELURU: A tragic road accident occurred near Chodimella in Eluru district, where a private travel bus collided with a cement lorry, resulting in three fatalities and 20 injuries.

The accident took place in the early hours of Thursday when a Ramana Travels bus traveling from Hyderabad to Kakinada crashed into a cement lorry on Somavarappadu Highway. The impact caused the bus to lose control and overturn, leading to the immediate death of three passengers, while 20 others sustained injuries.

Upon receiving information, the police rushed to the scene and launched rescue operations. The injured passengers were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Preliminary investigations suggest that overspeeding and driver fatigue were the likely causes of the accident. Due to the crash, the bus was left lying across the highway, causing a massive traffic jam. Authorities used a crane to remove the bus and restore normal traffic flow.

The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident. Further details are awaited.
