Hyderabad: BRS leader RS Praveen Kumar on Friday accused the Congress government of targeting Scheduled Caste students with discriminatory education rules and demanded immediate reversal of recent fee reimbursement changes.
Addressing reporters in Hyderabad, Kumar said the new policy forces SC students to pay upfront fees to engineering colleges an expense often exceeding ₹1 lakh before receiving reimbursement. He questioned how poor students could afford such amounts and called the rule “barbaric.”
Kumar said the previous system under the BRS government transferred tuition and maintenance fees directly to college accounts, ensuring seamless admission. Under the new guidelines, he alleged, the money is routed through student accounts, causing colleges to demand advance payment.
“Even if a student gets a good rank in EAPCET and secures a seat in the convener quota, colleges are demanding fees before admission,” he said.
He also criticised the government for failing to include the fee-change details in seat allotment orders. “Why introduce special guidelines only for SCs? Why not apply the same rules to all communities?” he asked.
Kumar questioned Congress leaders including CM Revanth Reddy and Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka for their silence and demanded they either resign or ensure justice for SC and ST students.
