Hyderabad, January 11: In light of the Sankranti festival, as people travel to their hometowns in large numbers, private bus operators have come under fire for charging exorbitant ticket prices. Reports of double and even triple charges have surfaced, prompting the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) to launch raids across Hyderabad.
Under the supervision of the RTA Joint Commissioner, officials conducted surprise checks on private buses operating primarily along the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway. Key focus areas included LB Nagar, Rajendra Nagar, Pedda Amberpet, and Aaramghar Junction.
During inspections, 20 buses in LB Nagar and around 10 buses in Rajendra Nagar were found operating without proper safety measures or valid permits. These buses were seized, and cases were registered against the operators.
The RTA has issued a stern warning to private bus operators, stating that strict action will be taken against those overcharging passengers or violating regulations. Officials emphasised the importance of adhering to safety standards and ensuring fair ticket pricing, particularly during the festive season.
The crackdown aims to curb exploitative practices and ensure a safe, affordable journey for travellers during the holiday period. Further checks are expected in the coming days as the festive rush continues.
