Hyderabad: The RTC Employees Union has urged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to revoke restrictions on trade unions within the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC), citing unfulfilled promises made in the Congress party’s election manifesto.
Union president S. Babu and general secretary Eeduru Venkanna submitted a letter to the Chief Minister on Monday, requesting the restoration of recognition to RTC unions. They pointed out that the previous BRS government had withdrawn recognition of nine employee and teacher associations in 2014. Later, in 2019, it also cancelled recognition of RTC unions through verbal orders.
Despite multiple protests and legal representations, the former administration did not reverse the decisions, the union said. They criticised the current government for inaction, even though nearly two years have passed since Congress came to power.
The union noted that the Revanth Reddy-led government had recently reinstated recognition for the nine employee unions derecognized earlier. They requested similar treatment for RTC unions, arguing that these associations impose no financial burden on the corporation.
The union urged the Chief Minister to act on the promise, remove all restrictions on RTC associations, and uphold the commitment made to workers.
