Hyderabad: Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Saturday dismissed opposition criticism of the Special Intensive Revision of voters in Bihar, stating that ruling and opposition parties were equal before the Election Commission.
He said political leaders had insulted the Constitution by using the phrase “vote theft” and condemned the remarks. The Commission followed the law without exception, he said, and every citizen above 18 held the right to vote.
Ruling and opposition parties equal
Kumar said the revision drive included all parties and that charges of bias were false propaganda. He asked political leaders to use the claims and objections window, open until September 1, to correct errors in the draft rolls. Both voters and party workers were already working to remove discrepancies, he said.
The CEC said more than seven crore voters in Bihar supported the Commission, making its credibility unquestionable. He reminded that parties themselves had demanded better rolls, and the current revision began in Bihar to answer that demand.
Kumar said he had not stepped back from his duty and was unafraid of accusations. He alleged that opposition leaders were misleading voters for political ends. He said the Commission remained open to all and described the press meet as historic, noting that such briefings usually came only during election schedule announcements.
