Hyderabad: R V Karnan officially assumed charge as the Commissioner of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Tuesday morning.
Following the recent reshuffle of IAS officers by the Telangana government, R V Karnan was appointed as the new Commissioner of GHMC. On Tuesday, he formally took over from K Ilambarithi, who has been transferred.
Previously, R V Karnan served as the Director of the State Health and Family Welfare Department, where he led major crackdowns against food establishments such as restaurants, pubs, and ice-cream parlours found violating hygiene standards, while also raising public awareness about food safety.
During his tenure as GHMC Commissioner, K Ilambarithi initiated several programmes aimed at urban development, infrastructure expansion, and the improvement of civic services across Hyderabad. Following his transfer, Ilambarithi was posted as Secretary in the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Department under the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).
On this occasion, GHMC officers and staff extended their best wishes to both the incoming Commissioner R V Karnan and the outgoing Commissioner K Ilambarithi .
