Hyderabad: Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty revealed shocking details in the sensational Sahasra murder case that took place in Kukatpally five days ago. The investigation found that a 14-year-old boy from the victim’s neighborhood killed her after she caught him stealing a cricket bat.
Killer Inspired by OTT Crime Dramas
According to the CP, the boy was heavily influenced by crime scenes from OTT platforms and behaved like a “professional criminal.” He had planned the theft for nearly a month, preparing a “script” on how to steal the bat, escape if caught, and erase all clues.
On August 18, he entered Sahasra’s house to steal the bat. When Sahasra noticed him and raised an alarm, the boy stabbed her multiple times with a knife he had carried. After the murder, he washed the weapon, dumped his blood-stained clothes in a washing machine at his house, and roamed the locality as if nothing had happened.
Investigation and Arrest
For three days, police had little progress due to lack of clear clues. The breakthrough came when another child reported seeing the boy loitering near Sahasra’s house on the day of the crime. When interrogated, the suspect initially tried to mislead the investigation but later confessed.
Police said the boy’s family was under financial stress, and he admitted he could not ask his parents to buy him a new bat. He reportedly told his mother the day after the murder, “You will hand me over yourself,” when she noticed his nervous behavior.
Juvenile Sent to Observation Home
The juvenile was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and later shifted to a juvenile home. Police highlighted the disturbing influence of OTT crime content on the boy’s mindset, stressing the need for parental awareness.
