Hyderabad: The parents of Sahasra, the teenage girl murdered in Kukatpally’s Sangeet Nagar, have accused police of trying to shield the accused by falsely claiming he is a minor.
The girl’s family alleged that police were attempting to dilute the case and help the accused escape punishment. They rejected the police version that the attacker killed Sahasra over a dispute related to a cricket bat, calling it misleading.
On Friday, her parents, relatives, and local residents staged a protest on the Mumbai National Highway in Moosapet. They demanded justice and called for the accused to be killed in an encounter. The demonstration led to a massive traffic jam.
The protestors shouted slogans against the police, alleging deliberate misdirection in the investigation. As the standoff intensified, police arrested Sahasra’s parents and moved them to Kukatpally police station after they refused to disperse.
Tension prevailed in the area as Sahasra’s mother claimed police were protecting the person who killed her daughter. “They are giving him protection, but we have none,” she said.
Her father, Krishna, said, “The one who killed my daughter doesn’t deserve to live.” He urged that both the accused and his parents be punished, warning that letting such criminals go free would cause more families to suffer.
Prajashanti Party founder K A Paul visited the grieving family on Saturday and extended his condolences.
