HYDERABAD: A remand prisoner named Sampath died under suspicious circumstances while in police custody in Nizamabad district, causing significant unrest. Sampath’s family, hailing from Peddapalli district, alleged that police torture led to his death at the station and are demanding justice.
Nizamabad Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Raja Venkata Reddy promptly arrived at the government hospital where Sampath’s body was taken and consulted with the attending doctors. Addressing the media, ACP Reddy stated that Sampath collapsed and died at the hospital, a fact confirmed by the medical staff.
An inquiry into Sampath’s death is currently underway. A team of three doctors has been appointed to conduct a post-mortem examination. Additionally, a case has been registered to investigate the suspicious death.
Sampath, a native of Peddapalli district, operated a consultancy in the Jagtial district center. He allegedly facilitated employment opportunities in Gulf countries. Some individuals who traveled to Dubai through Sampath reportedly faced hardships due to lack of work and accused him of sending them on fake visas, thereby deceiving them. These victims recently filed complaints with the Nizamabad Cyber Crime Police. Consequently, Sampath and another individual were taken into custody and remanded. During a two-day police custody for further interrogation, Sampath’s sudden death occurred this morning, sparking widespread concern.
