Hyderabad: The death toll from the massive explosion at the Pasamailaram industrial area in Sangareddy district has climbed to 37. Another 35 people have sustained injuries, with 11 of them in critical condition.
Rescue teams are searching for 27 workers who remain unaccounted for. The Sangareddy district collector warned that fatalities could rise further.
Several victims suffered severe burns. Officials suspect more people could still be trapped under debris and collapsed structures. Bodies recovered so far have been sent for post-mortem examination.
At the time of the incident, 108 labourers were working inside the plant. Among the injured, 11 are being treated in intensive care units.
The explosion occurred on Monday after a reactor burst inside the Sigachi chemical factory, triggering a fire. The blast was powerful enough to hurl workers across considerable distances.
