Hyderabad: Sangareddy district police have introduced iris scan technology at the town police station to strengthen crime detection and tracking. Officials said the system will allow immediate identification of suspects during patrol checks and investigations.
Until now, police largely depended on fingerprint scans to confirm the identity of suspects. With the new facility, officers can now scan a person’s eyes and access detailed records, including whether the individual has a past criminal history and the locations of earlier offences. Officials said the technology will help close loopholes exploited by repeat offenders who attempt to evade police scrutiny.
According to police, the iris scan device provides results within seconds. This ensures that suspects roaming suspiciously during night patrols can be quickly verified. In case of a match, their complete profile, including pending warrants or criminal involvement across different jurisdictions, becomes available to officers on the spot.

Sangareddy Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Satthayya Goud personally inspected the new iris scan setup at the town police station. He explained that the system would be used alongside existing fingerprint verification, giving officers dual access to biometric confirmation tools.
“During night patrols, our staff can now immediately identify suspicious persons through both fingerprint and iris scans,” the DSP said. He added that the technology will help prevent offenders from misleading police or escaping detection after committing crimes.
Local residents and community leaders have welcomed the initiative. They said the adoption of advanced tools by the police would not only deter criminal activity but also increase public trust in law enforcement. Officials stated that similar technology could be gradually extended to other police stations in the district.
