Hyderabad: Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi ordered a sanitation drive in Hyderabad bastis, telling GHMC officials and staff to keep cleanliness a top priority. She warned that any negligence would lead to action. On Monday, she toured Ambedkar Nagar and Uday Nagar in Jubilee Hills Circle with Zonal Commissioner Anurag Jayanti.
The Mayor told sanitation teams to speed up garbage removal during the monsoon to prevent seasonal diseases. She warned that workers who failed to act would face strict action. She also said anyone dumping construction waste in bastis would be penalised.
At Ambedkar Nagar, she saw a collapsed section of a nala’s retaining wall. She told engineers to set up quick safety measures to prevent accidents. She also ordered the removal of construction debris from roadsides in both bastis without delay.
Later, she visited Road No. 1, Banjara Hills, near Maheshwari Towers by Virinchi Hospital, where a road slab had sunk. The site already had ₹65 lakh sanctioned for a 19-metre RCC slab. Vijayalakshmi told engineering staff to start work at once and finish fast. Residents thanked her for getting funds approved quickly.
Chief Engineer Ratnakar, Deputy Commissioner Sammayya, and other officials joined her during the inspection.
