Sardar Patel’s legacy distorted for politics, says Telangana BJP chief

Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao accused certain political parties of distorting and concealing the legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel for political gain. He said that while Patel united the country, present-day Congress leaders are working to divide it using issues like caste and region.

Speaking at a workshop marking the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel, Rao said Patel, known as the “Man of Steel,” unified 560 princely states, including Hyderabad, through decisive action. “Telangana owes its place in India to Sardar Patel’s leadership during the Hyderabad merger,” he said.

Sardar Patel legacy politics: BJP slams Congress, foreign interference

He criticised state governments for not officially observing September 17 as Hyderabad Liberation Day. “The Modi government and BJP celebrate it with pride,” Rao added.

The BJP leader also warned that foreign entities, including George Soros, were allegedly funding the Congress to destabilise India. “While Sardar Patel fought to unite India, some within the Congress are now trying to divide it,” he said.

He praised Union Home Minister Amit Shah for almost eradicating Left Wing Extremism, calling him a “modern-day Sardar Patel.” However, Rao raised concern over recent revelations by surrendered Naxals alleging ongoing political ties to Maoists in Telangana.

He demanded that the state Congress government launch an immediate investigation. “People deserve to know who is supporting Naxalism that has claimed hundreds of police lives,” he said.

Rao urged BJP workers and citizens to participate in Sardar Patel’s 150th anniversary events, calling it a national responsibility. He also emphasised the “Vocal for Local” message and the Modi government’s goal of a self-reliant India.
