Hyderabad: In a landmark move, Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has opened the doors for women to operate heavy machinery in open cast mines. This ushers in a new era of gender inclusion in India’s mining sector.
SCCL Empowers Women for Technical Roles in Mining
Acting on the directive of CMD N. Balram, SCCL is accepting applications from women currently working as General Assistants or Badili Workers. Selected candidates will undergo training and may take on roles as ‘EP Operator Trainee Category-5’ in open cast mining sites.
To be eligible, applicants must be under 35 years of age, have passed at least Class 7, and be physically fit. Additionally, they must hold a valid two-wheeler or four-wheeler driving license. Notably, preference will go to those who obtained their license before August 2024.
Interested employees should submit their applications to their respective Mine Manager, Department Head, or General Manager. A screening committee, led by the General Manager (CPP), will evaluate and shortlist candidates.
Professional Training at Sircilla Driving Institute
After the shortlist is finalized, SCCL will send selected candidates to the Telangana Institute of Driving Education and Skills in Sircilla. There, they will receive hands-on training in Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) and Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) operations.
Upon completing the training and clearing the selection test, candidates will be appointed to available operator roles in SCCL’s open cast projects.
Commitment to Equality and Inclusion
This is the first time SCCL has offered such technical roles to women. The move represents a significant shift toward workplace equality in the mining industry.
Moreover, by providing women with both technical training and leadership opportunities, SCCL is empowering its workforce. It is also setting a strong benchmark for gender equity in one of India’s most physically demanding sectors.
