HYDERABAD: In a rare and delicate surgical procedure, doctors at Gandhi Hospital, Secunderabad successfully removed a screwdriver that had accidentally pierced a young man’s eye.
According to hospital sources, the victim, Ranjith, is an electrical mechanic from Kucharam village in Manoharabad mandal of Medak district. On April 8, while carrying out repair work, a screwdriver accidentally struck his right eye with force.
His family first admitted him to a private eye hospital in Banjara Hills. Following medical advice, he was taken to NIMS the next day. On April 10, doctors at NIMS referred him to Gandhi Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Upon examination at Gandhi Hospital, doctors confirmed that while the screwdriver had pierced the upper part of the eye, the eyeball itself was unharmed. The patient was then shifted to the neurosurgery department, where a team of specialists carried out a two-hour-long surgery to carefully extract the embedded tool.
Hospital officials reported on Tuesday that Ranjith is recovering well and is expected to be discharged soon.
