Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner and District Election Officer R.V. Karnan on Monday said that sector and nodal officers play a vital role in the electoral process. He warned that any negligence in their duties would lead to action.
He addressed a training session for sector officers at the GHMC head office. The session was held ahead of the Jubilee Hills Assembly by-election. Karnan instructed officers to stay alert and regularly inspect all polling stations in their assigned areas.

He asked officials to ensure all polling booths have basic facilities. These include drinking water, lighting, fans, toilets, and uninterrupted power supply. As part of security planning, he advised mapping vulnerable areas in consultation with Tahsildars, SHOs, and booth-level officers.
Later in the day, Karnan held training sessions for key election monitoring teams. These included the Expenditure Monitoring Team, FST, SST, VST, VVT, MCC, and MCMC. He directed all teams to follow Election Commission guidelines strictly and discharge duties with transparency.
In the evening, he chaired a separate meeting with nodal officers at Panwar Hall. He underlined their responsibility to ensure the bypoll proceeds smoothly and fairly. He asked them to maintain oversight and coordination across departments.
GHMC Zonal Commissioners Anurag Jayanti, Hemanth Keshav Patil, Apoorva Chauhan, Hemanth Sahadevarao, and Ravi Kiran were present. MCC nodal officer Narasimha Reddy, Chief Horticulture Officer Sunanda, and Electrical EE Mamatha also attended.
