Raipur, February 1: An encounter between security forces and Naxalites took place on Saturday in the Gangloor police station area of Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh. According to reports, at least eight Naxalites have been killed so far, and the number may rise.
Gunfire between the two sides began around 8:30 AM and continued intermittently. Security forces have reportedly surrounded key Maoist cadres in the area. Bastar IG Sundarraj P reportedly confirmed the encounter.
In the past month alone, over 50 Naxalites have been killed in similar operations. Acting on intelligence about a large Naxal presence in the Gangloor forest area, a joint team of DRG, STF, CoBRA 202, and CRPF 222 battalions was deployed for a search operation.
The operation is still ongoing, though one contingent of security personnel has returned from the site. Further updates are awaited as the situation develops.
