HYDERABAD, February 12: On 12 February 2025, senior Congress leader and former MP V. Hanumantha Rao criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government for allegedly misusing power by filing cases against opposition leaders while ignoring complaints against ruling party members. He highlighted that on 16 December 2022, a case was filed against Rahul Gandhi for inappropriate comments related to national defence, with summons issued for him to appear in a Lucknow court on 24 March. In contrast, Rao noted that his own complaints against Amit Shah and Mohan Bhagwat for allegedly disrespecting the Constitution and independence, respectively, have not led to any registered cases.
Rao questioned the disparity, asking whether there is one form of justice for Rahul Gandhi and another for Amit Shah and Mohan Bhagwat. He emphasised that the law and judicial system should be equal for all.
Additionally, Rao urged the public and party members to visit the memorial of Damodaram Sanjeevaiah on his birth anniversary, 14 February. He recalled that former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had allocated ₹2 crore for constructing a memorial in Kurnool, but noted that there has been no progress on this initiative. Rao appealed to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan to establish the memorial and to consider renaming Kurnool district after Sanjeevaiah.
