Hyderabad: A habitual chain-snatching offender with over 30 prior property crimes was arrested by the Secunderabad Government Railway Police (GRP) in coordination with Railway Protection Force (RPF) on July 21.
The accused, Mothilal Reddappa Pawar (24), originally from Raichur district, Karnataka, and residing in Pune, was apprehended outside Secunderabad Railway Station. He confessed to two recent gold chain snatching incidents one on the Palnadu Express on July 14 and another on an MMTS train on July 19.
Police said Mothilal had previously served multiple jail terms and was recently released on bail. Struggling financially and needing funds to pay legal fees and secure the release of his associates, he resumed criminal activities targeting female train passengers.
Two cases have been registered under Cr.No. 389/2025 and Cr.No. 371/2025, both under Section 304(2) BNS at Secunderabad RPS.
The arrest was led by IRP SHO B. Saieashwar Goud and a joint team from GRP and RPF under the supervision of Superintendent of Railway Police Chandana Deepti IPS. The operation drew praise from IGP Railway and Road Safety K. Ramesh Naidu IPS, who announced rewards for the involved personnel.
