HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has faced a setback as the High Court issued a stay on the land acquisition process for an industrial park in Hakimpet, Kodangal constituency. The Congress government had earlier initiated the acquisition but has now been directed to halt the process until further orders.
The state government had planned to acquire 1,358.37 acres across Hakimpet, Lagacherla, Polepally, Rotibanda Tanda, and Pulicherlakunta Tanda in Dudyal Mandal, Vikarabad district, to establish a Pharma Village. A land acquisition notification was issued in August last year. However, allegations surfaced that the land acquisition was being carried out to benefit a company linked to Revanth Reddy’s son-in-law. Additionally, protests by Lagacherla farmers intensified, forcing the Congress government to withdraw the notification for Lagacherla and Polepally.
In a fresh move, the government attempted land acquisition in Hakimpet under the guise of an industrial corridor, prompting several farmers to approach the High Court in protest. After reviewing the case, the High Court has imposed a stay on the land acquisition process, temporarily halting the government’s plans.
