Hyderabad: A total of 478 individuals were caught red-handed for misbehaving with women devotees during Bonalu and Moharram festivities in Hyderabad, according to Hyderabad City Police’s SHE Teams.

The apprehended included 386 adults and 92 minors. Offences were reported at major religious gatherings including Golconda Bonalu, Balkampet Yellamma Temple, and Ujjaini Mahankali Temple in Secunderabad.

Of the total, 288 were warned and let off. Four were booked under petty cases, with one convicted and fined. The remaining three were fined ₹50 each. One individual received a sentence involving imprisonment along with a fine.

Eight FIRs were registered across city police stations. In all, five convictions were recorded.

To manage crowd safety and ensure women’s security during the festival season, 14 SHE Teams were deployed across the city. The unit also ran 124 awareness drives, conducted 1,405 field observations, and organised 352 campaigns using audiovisual vehicles.

SHE Teams also issued alerts warning citizens to beware of fake online profiles, avoid oversharing on social media, and secure personal accounts with strong passwords and two-factor authentication.

Women facing harassment are advised to contact SHE Teams via Dial 100 or WhatsApp at 9490616555.
