Hyderabad: B. Shivadhar Reddy took charge as the sixth Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana on Wednesday. He assumed office at the DGP headquarters in Lakdikapul after offering special prayers in his chamber.
Speaking after taking charge, Reddy said the police would ensure smooth conduct of the upcoming local body elections. Moreover, he added that he would request the government to fill vacant posts at the earliest.
Priorities for policing and recruitment
The new DGP said he would strengthen basic policing with better use of technology at the ground level. In addition, he assured that the department would recruit experts to fill vacancies in specialised wings. Furthermore, he stressed that the force needed to enhance skills rather than merely increase the number of police stations.
Appeal to Maoists and warning on fake news
Reddy revealed that a Maoist leader had recently written a letter expressing willingness to give up violence. Consequently, he appealed to Maoists to join the mainstream of society and contribute to development. He promised that police would fully support those who surrendered.
The DGP also cautioned citizens against misuse of social media. He warned that anyone spreading fake news or engaging in character assassination online would therefore face strict legal action.
With humility, I assume charge as the Director General of Police (DGP), Telangana. I remain committed to upholding law and order with integrity and to ensuring the highest standards of public safety. Together, let us strive to make Telangana a model of peace and progress.… pic.twitter.com/PC7kFYO74A
