Hyderabad: Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) will supply 2.88 million tonnes of G-11 grade coal annually to Tamil Nadu Power Generation Corporation from its Naini block in Odisha.
A Fuel Supply Agreement (FSA) is expected to be finalized within 10 days. The coal will be delivered to Tamil Nadu Genco’s 1,200 MW thermal power plant at Udangudi in Thoothukudi district.
This arrangement was confirmed during a meeting at Singareni Bhavan in Hyderabad between SCCL Chairman and Managing Director N. Balram and Tamil Nadu Power Genco Managing Director M. Govind Rao.
Rao requested the coal supply to meet the annual requirements of the Udangudi plant. Balram responded that production had begun at the Naini coal block and Singareni was ready to dispatch coal by both rail and waterways.
He directed Naini project officials and transport departments to prepare for timely dispatch. He also instructed the marketing team to complete the FSA within the set timeline.
This agreement makes Tamil Nadu the first consumer of coal from the Naini block. It also marks a key expansion in SCCL’s coal distribution, which already includes 1.75 million tonnes annually to the North Chennai thermal power plant.
SCCL and Tamil Nadu Genco officials, including Executive Director (coal movement) B. Venkanna and GM (coordination & marketing) T. Srinivas, attended the meeting.
