Balram said the partnership aligns with SCCL’s strategy to diversify into clean energy. The company plans to establish a 500 MW pumped storage power plant at its Medipalli opencast mine, scale up solar generation to 5,000 MW, and explore setting up a geothermal power plant at Manuguru. He stated that NTPC’s expertise in power generation, especially through its green energy arm NGEL, will provide valuable technical support and may lead to joint ventures for these initiatives. SCCL is also considering NTPC’s assistance in marketing the power generated through these projects.
NGEL representatives welcomed SCCL’s entry into the renewable sector, calling it a forward-looking move. They noted NGEL’s rapid expansion in green energy and expressed optimism that the collaboration could result in projects within India and globally.
