Hyderabad: The Telangana Boggu Gani Karmika Sangham on Monday demanded immediate withdrawal of the revised rental charges for the community hall under Ramagundam Region-2 of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL).
Union vice-president Ily Srinivas submitted a memorandum to Area GM Maloth Ramudu, strongly objecting to the sharp increase. Later, speaking to the media, Srinivas said the management had hiked the rent from a nominal ₹558 to ₹15,000 for workers’ families and ₹30,000 for outsiders, excluding cleaning and electrical charges.
Singareni community hall rent hike draws union anger
He termed the order as exploitative and slammed the move as a business-minded approach that ignored workers’ welfare. “The hall was built for the benefit of coal workers, but the rent has been fixed like a private function venue,” Srinivas said.
He added that despite failing to provide basic facilities at the hall, the management had unilaterally raised the charges, disregarding its own claims of spending crores on worker welfare. “This is nothing but an attempt to commercialise a welfare facility meant for coal worker families,” he alleged.
The union demanded that SCCL immediately reverse the decision. Central vice-president Cheruku Prabhakar Reddy, Chandrayya, Abbu Srinivas Reddy, Raviteja, Dasari Srinivas, Venkatesh, Mark Naresh, and Rakesh were among those present during the representation.
