Hyderabad: The Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) of Telangana has condemned what it described as a harsh police crackdown on students of the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU). The students were protesting in solidarity with Palestine. SIO criticised the state government for imposing non-bailable charges and detaining peaceful demonstrators across Telangana.
In its statement, SIO accused the Congress-led government of acting against its own public stance. “It is alarming that the Congress, which claims to support Palestine, behaves like an authoritarian regime when students raise their voices,” the group said.
Repression extends beyond EFLU
SIO noted that the action was not limited to the EFLU campus. Police also detained protestors at solidarity gatherings in Hyderabad, Adilabad, and nearby areas. The organisation described these events as peaceful and rooted in humanitarian concern.
They argued that the government’s actions show a clear contradiction between its promises and its actual behaviour. This, SIO said, points to a dangerous gap between political claims and administrative conduct.
SIO demands protection of protest rights
Calling the treatment of students inhumane, SIO urged the government to end such practices immediately. They stressed the need to uphold basic constitutional rights, especially the right to peaceful protest.
“A democratic government should protect those who stand for justice not punish them,” the group concluded.
