RANCHI: In a major blow to Maoist forces already reeling under pressure from successive encounters, six militants were killed in a fierce exchange of fire with security forces in the Lalpania area of Bokaro district, Jharkhand, in the early hours of Monday.
The encounter broke out at dawn and intense gunfire was reported between the two sides. According to initial reports, six Maoists have been confirmed dead in the operation. Security forces recovered a large cache of arms and explosives from the site of the encounter.
While further details are awaited, officials said that combing operations are ongoing in the surrounding areas. The encounter marks another significant development in the ongoing anti-Maoist operations being conducted across the region.
