Hyderabad: A six-year-old girl was abducted by an unidentified woman from a toddy compound in Shamshabad, on the outskirts of Hyderabad. The incident occurred on July 1 but was reported to the police only a week later.
According to the RGI Airport police, the child, Keerthana, had accompanied her mother Lakshmamma, a daily wage labourer from Mahbubnagar, and her younger sister Archana, to the compound. While there, an unknown middle-aged woman approached them and struck up a conversation with Lakshmamma.
As the mother began to lose consciousness reportedly due to intoxication the suspect took advantage of the moment and fled with Keerthana. The abduction remained unreported as Lakshmamma searched for her daughter independently for several days, hoping she might return.
Eventually, she filed a complaint late Monday night, prompting police to register a case and launch a probe.
CCTV footage from the scene shows the woman walking out of the compound with the child. Police are now scanning surveillance cameras in nearby streets and localities to trace her movements and recover the girl.
