SLBC tunnel operations intensified in danger zone as debris removal continues

NAGARKURNOOL: Rescue teams inspected the feasibility of clearing debris from the danger zone within the SLBC (Srisailam Left Bank Canal) tunnel. Excavation and debris removal operations are being carried out on a war footing.

Special Officer Shivashankar conducted a review meeting with officers from various rescue teams at the SLBC Tunnel Inlet Office. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel entered the farthest section of the danger zone to assess the accumulated soil, boulders, and collapsed areas, as well as the force of water seepage.

In section D2, soil is being excavated and loaded onto a conveyor belt with the help of a Proclain machine. To accelerate operations, two more heavy machines have been deployed inside the tunnel. Workers from South Central Railway are using cutting equipment to remove remnants of the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), which are being transported out of the tunnel via a loco train.

Water is being pumped out with high-capacity motors and discharged into the Krishna River. Continuous monitoring is being maintained around the cordoned-off danger zone, which has been barricaded for safety.

Officials from both central and state rescue teams participated in the review meeting.
