Hyderabad: Food safety officials in Jadcherla shut a bakery after a customer allegedly found a snake inside a curry puff, triggering public outrage in Mahbubnagar district on Wednesday.
Responding to a complaint, district food inspector Neelima visited Jadcherla police station, examined the puff, and sent it for laboratory testing. Later, she inspected Sri Lakshmi Bangalore Bakery, where the puff had been made.

During the inspection, officials learned the bakery was operating without a licence. They also found unhygienic food preparation areas and detected expired chemical powders and creams in buns, cakes, biscuits, and puffs.
Outraged by the violations, Neelima issued notices to the owner and ordered the bakery closed until the lab results are available. She said the investigation was ongoing and confirmed legal action would follow within seven days of receiving the report.
She cautioned that expired food chemicals can cause serious harm, particularly to children. Therefore, she stressed, bakeries and hotels must follow hygiene rules and immediately remove expired stock. Unlicensed establishments, she warned, would face strict enforcement.
Meanwhile, local residents claimed that many bakeries in Jadcherla ignore quality standards. They accused municipal officials of neglecting licence checks, which has allowed unsafe food practices to persist in the town.
