Hyderabad: Police at Gachibowli have booked a 19-year-old for allegedly murdering his father over a financial dispute linked to betting expenses.
According to police, on July 1 around 12 noon, the suspect, Ravinder, took his father Hanumanthu (37) to a secluded spot and stabbed him to death. Hanumanthu had mortgaged land to raise ₹6 lakh, which Ravinder then squandered on betting and other expenses.
After repeated scolding by his father, Ravinder hatched a plan to eliminate him, police said.
Hanumanthu’s younger brother Ramesh, 25, an auto driver from Gopanpally Thanda, was informed of the incident by Ravinder at around 2:30 pm the same day. Ramesh, along with relatives Mohan and Jamalamma, rushed to the scene and found Hanumanthu lying in a pool of blood with a neck wound.
The family shifted the body to their native village in Wanaparthy district for funeral rites.
Gachibowli police registered a case on Ramesh’s complaint and took up investigation. Ravinder later confessed during questioning, officials confirmed.
