Hyderabad: The Special Operations Team (SOT) Malkajgiri Zone, with Cherlapally L&O Police, arrested a Bihar native on Thursday for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, seizing three countrymade guns and 10 live rounds.
Acting on credible information, police apprehended Shiv Kumar, 32, of Pukat Nagar Colony near Pedda Cherlapally, at 12:15 hrs near Cherlapally Railway Station. Officers booked him under Cr.No.288/2025, U/s 25 (1)(A), 25 (1)(B)(a) of the Arms Act. His alleged supplier and brother-in-law, Krishna Paswan, 28, of Aurangabad, Bihar, remains absconding.
Police said Kumar, the eldest of three brothers and two sisters, studied up to Class 10. He married Sony Devi in October 2014, later working in a Gujarat cloth company before moving to Hyderabad in 2022. Employed as a hamali at Srikara Fertilizers in Medipally, he has a criminal record, including Cr.No.52/2025 under the NDPS Act for possessing cannabis-laced chocolates.
On August 6, 2025, Kumar travelled to Bihar for Raksha Bandhan, where he conspired with Paswan to make and sell weapons in Hyderabad for profit. He allegedly procured the firearms and ammunition in Bihar and brought them to Telangana to sell to criminal elements.
Seized property: three countrymade weapons, 10 live rounds, and one mobile phone.
Rachakonda Police appealed to the public to report any illegal firearm possession or arms trade in their areas. They warned that such offences carry imprisonment and fines.
The operation was conducted under the direct supervision of Commissioner of Police G. Sudheer Babu, IPS, with guidance from DCP Malkajgiri Smt. Padmaja, IPS, DCP SOT-I A. Ramana Reddy, Addl DCP SOT-I N. Narsimha Reddy, ACP SOT-I C. Anjaiah, and Inspectors G. Janaiah (SOT) and A. Sudhakar (Cherlapally), along with SI M. Sai Kumar and the SOT Malkajgiri and Cherlapally L&O teams.
