Hyderabad: A sound engineer tested positive for marijuana during a surprise drug raid at a pub in Rayadurgam, Hyderabad, triggering fresh concerns over narcotics use in the city’s nightlife venues.
The raid, led by the Telangana Narcotics Bureau’s Eagle Team in coordination with Madhapur police, was conducted at Aban Pub under the Rayadurgam police station limits late Saturday night, July 12. Officers said they acted on specific intelligence that drug consumption was taking place at the venue.
During the operation, multiple individuals were subjected to drug testing. Among them, Mani Raman, a sound engineer working across several pubs, tested positive for cannabis.
Officials said the raid was part of an ongoing crackdown aimed at making Hyderabad a drug-free city, with authorities maintaining round-the-clock surveillance. However, despite sustained enforcement, isolated incidents of drug use continue to surface.
Police have registered a case against Mani Raman and launched a further investigation.
The incident follows a similar bust at Malnadu Kitchen restaurant in Kompally, where multiple individuals were arrested, including a hotel owner allegedly linked to Nigerian nationals supplying drugs.
