Hyderabad: South Central Railway (SCR) will observe the “Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2025” campaign from September 17 to October 2, focusing on sanitation, waste management, and eliminating single-use plastic across its zones.
This year’s campaign, themed ‘Swachhotsav’, is being held under the guidance of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), Ministry of Jal Shakti.
Key focus areas of SHS 2025
To ensure measurable impact, SCR will conduct daily cleanups at Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) and upload geo-tagged photographs as evidence. Additionally, teams will carry out focused drives in public spaces and high-footfall areas.
Health and safety of sanitation workers are also a priority. Therefore, ‘Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivirs’ will offer check-ups and connect workers to welfare schemes. In parallel, eco-conscious celebrations under the ‘Clean Green Utsav’ banner will promote zero-waste events.
Moreover, public awareness will be strengthened through creative initiatives such as Swachh Sujal Gaon, Waste to Art, Clean Street Food campaigns, and RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) Centers.
Nationwide ‘Shramdaan’ drive on September 25
A major highlight of the campaign will be “Shramdaan – Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath”, scheduled for September 25, where SCR employees will collectively participate in a coordinated one-hour cleanliness effort.
Additional activities planned
To keep the momentum strong, SCR has lined up:
- Pledges and awareness workshops
- NGO and community outreach programmes
- Health camps, marathons, plantation drives, and RRR activities
- Cultural festivals and public competitions
- Intensive cleaning and pest control in stations, pantry cars, base kitchens, tracks, and offices
- Sanitation work in schools and water bodies near rail premises
Through this multi-pronged effort, SCR aims to reinforce the message that cleanliness is not just a duty but a form of patriotism and collective responsibility.
