Hyderabad: State Sports Minister Vakiti Srihari on Friday directed officials to transform Telangana’s sports schools into medal-winning factories by focusing on merit-based admissions, modern training, and student welfare.
At a review meeting held at LB Stadium with Sports Authority Chairman Shivsena Reddy, Srihari ordered immediate upgrades at sports schools in Hakimpet, Karimnagar, and Adilabad. He asked engineering officials to carry out urgent repairs and install CCTV cameras at all campuses.
For the 2025–26 academic year, he insisted on transparent and merit-driven student selection. He called for advanced sports training and quarterly battery tests with computerised reports to be sent to parents.
Officials were told to classify students from A to F based on performance, and to transfer those lacking athletic potential to government residential schools. He stressed that sports school staff must treat student welfare as a personal responsibility.
The minister announced a new video conference hall at LB Stadium, to be linked with CCTV networks across all schools. He committed to regular reviews of all departments and warned of consequences for negligence.
The meeting was attended by senior officials including Special Officer T. Mamatha and Deputy Directors G. Chandra Reddy, G. Ravinder, Dr. Ravi Shankar Pallela, S.M. Basha, G. Ashok Kumar, P. Sandeep Kumar, and Suresh Kaleru.
