Hyderabad: Telangana’s Minister for IT and Industries D. Sridhar Babu on Tuesday urged deeper bilateral cooperation and expertise exchange with Cuba, proposing joint initiatives in biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and sports development.
During a meeting with Cuban Ambassador to India H.E. Juan Carlos Marsán Aguilera and First Secretary Maiky Díaz Pérez at the Secretariat, Sridhar Babu outlined several areas for collaboration. These included biotech, pharma, healthcare, AI, innovation, sustainable farming, and cultural engagement.
He stated that Telangana is fully prepared to support Cuban startups through government incubators such as T-Hub, T-Works, and WE-Hub. In addition, he proposed joint work in AI-based diagnostics, pharmaceutical research, and public health data systems.
The Minister invited the Cuban delegation to visit Genome Valley, a globally ranked life sciences cluster. He said this visit could open opportunities in research, manufacturing, and technology transfer.
Moreover, Sridhar Babu expressed Telangana’s interest in leveraging Cuba’s renowned expertise in boxing and athletics to strengthen the state’s sports ecosystem.
He emphasized that Telangana remains committed to building international partnerships that drive innovation, economic growth, and cultural exchange. According to him, the state’s progressive policies and world-class infrastructure make it a model for global cooperation.
In response, Ambassador Aguilera welcomed the proposal and confirmed Cuba’s willingness to partner with innovation-focused states like Telangana. He said Cuba is eager to expand cooperation in science, healthcare, technology, and culture.
Also present were Madhusudan, Director of the Telangana Investment and Promotion Cell, and Dr. Shakti Nagappan, Director of the Telangana Life Sciences Foundation.
