A section of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal tunnel in Nalgonda collapsed, injuring several workers. Rescue operations are ongoing to evacuate those trapped.
HYDERABAD: A section of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal tunnel in Nalgonda district collapsed on Saturday morning, leaving several workers injured. The incident took place at the 14-kilometre mark of the tunnel, where a three-metre section of the roof caved in around 8:30 AM.
At the time of the collapse, several workers were reportedly inside the tunnel. Rescue teams are actively working to evacuate those trapped. So far, three workers have been safely rescued and shifted to the nearby GENCO hospital for treatment.
Nagarkurnool Superintendent of Police (SP) Vaibhav Gaikwad reached the site immediately to oversee the rescue operations. He emphasised that the top priority is to ensure the safe evacuation of all workers and provide necessary medical aid to the injured.
The Srisailam Left Bank Canal tunnel project is designed to divert water from the Srisailam reservoir to the Nalgonda district. Construction had recently resumed after being stalled for five years.
Authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the cause of the collapse. Rescue operations will continue until all workers are accounted for, ensuring their safety remains the primary concern.
