Hyderabad: Heavy inflows from upstream areas have increased the flood discharge into the Srisailam reservoir, forcing authorities to release water downstream.
Water level rises in Srisailam
Officials said inflows of over three lakh cusecs from Jurala and Sunkesula projects have raised the reservoir level. The Krishna River was seen swelling at Srisailam as a result.
To manage the inflow, authorities lifted 10 gates by 10 feet and released 3,65,282 cusecs into the Nagarjunasagar reservoir downstream.
Water is released through powerhouses
In addition, 30,000 cusecs were discharged through the Pothireddypadu head regulator. The left bank power house released 35,315 cusecs, while the right bank power house discharged 30,237 cusecs.
Current storage and capacity
The full reservoir level (FRL) of Srisailam is 885 feet. The present level stood at 882.60 feet. Against its full storage capacity of 215.80 tmc ft, the reservoir held 202.50 tmc ft.
