Hyderabad: The Gopalapuram police investigation into the Srushti surrogacy scam has resulted in the arrest of 26 individuals, including key accused Dr Namrata, in a rapidly expanding child trafficking case worth over ₹20 crore.
Police say Dr Namrata posed as a surrogacy provider, scamming nearly 50 people. She allegedly targeted vulnerable tribal women and forcibly selling their newborns. Investigators uncovered that Namrata allegedly paid ₹5 lakh to the women and sold each infant to clients for up to ₹50 lakh. So far, she is suspected to have trafficked around 80 children.
Children recovered, police plan transfer to state shelter homes
Another accused, identified as Santoshi, reportedly procured 18 infants from agents. Police are preparing to transfer the rescued children to Sishu Vihar. Authorities also confirmed that Namrata conducted premature surgeries on pregnant women after luring them with cash incentives.
Investigators have frozen Dr. Namrata’s bank accounts and launched efforts to identify the birth mothers. The case continues to unravel with more disturbing details emerging each day.
